Daily-Use Vocabulary – Set 1

 1. Avoid (verb)


Meaning: Stay away from something

Example: I avoid junk food to stay healthy.

Other forms:


Avoidable (adj): This mistake was avoidable.


Avoidance (noun): His avoidance of responsibility was obvious.



2. Suggest (verb)


Meaning: Give an idea or advice

Example: I suggest you take some rest.

Other forms:


Suggestion (noun): That’s a good suggestion.



3. Borrow (verb)


Meaning: Take something for a short time

Example: Can I borrow your pen?

Tip: “Borrow” = you take; “Lend” = you give.



4. Improve (verb)


Meaning: Make something better

Example: He is trying to improve his English.

Other forms:


Improvement (noun): There is a big improvement in your work.



5. Forget (verb)


Meaning: Fail to remember something

Example: I forgot my keys at home.

Opposite: Remember



6. Finish (verb)


Meaning: Complete something

Example: I finished my homework.

Other forms:


Unfinished (adj): The project is still unfinished.



7. Need (verb/noun)


Meaning: Require something

Example: I need your help.

Noun use: There’s no need to worry.

📝 Story: A Busy Morning


This morning, I woke up late and almost forgot my phone at home. I quickly got ready and asked my brother, “Can I borrow your bike? I need to reach the office on time.”


While riding, I realized I should avoid the main road because of traffic, so I took a shortcut. It helped me finish my journey faster. When I reached the office, my friend suggested that I start using an alarm app to wake up on time.


I agreed and decided to improve my routine from tomorrow. Small changes can make a big improvement in life.
